MARCUS REIN

Marcus Rein, Physical Therapist and Coach
DPT, CES, PES, CF-L1

Marcus began his journey into the world of movement science years ago when he played for the USA Men’s Soccer youth teams from ages 13 to 19 as well as Division 1 collegiate soccer at Wake Forest University and the University of Central Florida. Here he was exposed to olympic lifting, exercise programming, and the relationship between high-quality movement and sports performance. During this time he sustained many injuries, some of which resulted in orthopedic surgeries followed by physical therapy. It was while recovering he realized the close connection between the efficient movements taught by physical therapy and their importance in supporting the physical demands of sport. After his soccer career ended, Marcus coached Santa Cruz athletes in the balance between sports performance and injury prevention for six years. While coaching, he achieved certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Level 1 instructor, as well as a CrossFit Level 1 instructor. He then furthered his understanding of rehabilitation, movement impairments, and injury prevention by entering graduate school at Samuel Merritt University to earn a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. If not studying or coaching a CrossFit class, Marcus can be found having fun at local concerts, getting sandy with some beach volleyball, or relaxing with his favorite music.

Joey Trammell

JOEY TRAMMELL

Joey Trammell

JOEY TRAMMELL

Joey Trammell, Staff Coach
CF-L1, CF-Mobility, FMS, EMT, NASM, TRX 2 Corrective

Joey was first exposed to coaching through the MMA community. In 2006 he was hired as a strength and Conditioning coach, within months he caught the attention of a CrossFit affiliate and was brought under their wing to be mentored and eventually teach CrossFit. Joey was instantly hooked by the new and exciting fitness regiment and the results it produced with his clientele.

After a serious car accident in 2010 that damaged Joey's spinal soft tissue, he was informed of the 90% chance he wouldn't make a full recovery, and that another profession might be more suitable. "So you're telling me there's a chance!" Joey's optimism prevailed as he made a full recovery and furthered his education to become a Corrective Exercise Specialist and CrossFit LVL 1 certified Coach. He specializes in providing custom programming for recovering athletes as well as healthy athletes looking to improve their performance.

He is currently pursuing a degree in Kinesiology while working towards his long term goal of becoming a Fire Fighter EMT. Some of Joey's favorite things to do are CrossFit, eat food, play with his dog (Lou Dawg), martial arts, any aquatic activities, anything outdoors and active, experiencing the unique culture of Santa cruz, watching movies or listening to live music, and his most regular hobby of playing air guitar or drums and clapping very loudly in the gym (aka coaching)!
